Cancel Prescriptions in E-Prescribing Desktop

Purpose: Cancel a prescription in E-Prescribing Desktop (Rcopia) and send a cancellation message to the pharmacy.

Audience: Active E-Prescribing Desktop users

This article does not cover stopping a medication. Stopping a medication removes it from the patient's Active Medication list and does not send a message to the pharmacy. Review the Stop a Medication article to learn more.

Where to cancel a prescription

You can cancel a prescription from the Prescription Summary or from a patient's Prescription Management panel. Open the Prescription Summary from the top of your screen to work with any or all patients. Open the Prescription Management panel in a specific patient's profile to work with that patient only. The steps and screens are the same in both places. Both show prescriptions with a status of Pending, Completed, Undeliverable, or Canceled.

Step 1: Fill in the search fields to narrow your results: Provider, Patient, Drug Type, Status, and Date Range.

Step 2: Click the orange Search button.

When you view All prescription statuses in the Prescription Summary, prescriptions sort by status first (Pending, Completed, Undeliverable, Canceled). Next, they sort by last modified date, with the most recent first. Last, they sort alphabetically by drug name.

If you are in the Prescription Summary, confirm you selected the correct patient's prescription before you continue. Canceling the wrong prescription sends a cancellation message to the pharmacy.

Step 3: Find the drug you want to cancel. Look for the Actions column on the right side of the screen.

Step 4: In the Actions column, click the X icon.

Step 5: On the Cancel Prescription screen, select a reason for canceling from the Reasons For Cancellation drop-down menu.

Step 6: (Optional) Enter more information in the Additional Notes field.

Step 7: (Optional) To also remove the medication from the patient's active medication list, select the Also Stop Medication checkbox.

Step 8: Click the orange Cancel Prescription button.
A notification at the top of the screen confirms the prescription is canceled. E-Prescribing Desktop also sends a cancellation message to the pharmacy. The pharmacy may or may not respond to confirm it received the message.
