Experian vs. ID.me Identity Proofing and EPCS onboarding

Verification of your identity ("identity proofing") and onboarding for Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) must be completed before providers can e-prescribe controlled substances.

At a minimum, identity proofing must be completed before providers can e-prescribe any non-controlled substance prescription.

Depending on how you registered for iPrescribe, iPrescribe Practice, or iPrescribe Enterprise, the process will differ slightly.

Experian or ID.me are identity proofing vendors; InfinID is a program that hosts the process.

Contact your Account or Channel Manager to determine whether identity proofing through Experian or through ID.me is right for your organization.

Identity Proofing via ID.me or Experian

iPrescribe leverages two primary identity proofing vendors to ensure a secure and seamless onboarding process:

  • Experian:

    • Used primarily for clients registered through DrFirst Sales (i.e., iPrescribe Practice and iPrescribe Enterprise).

    • You will see InfinID across the top of your screens as you progress through the process.

  • ID.me:

    • Used primarily for self-registered clients who signed up for the iPrescribe app independently.

    • You will see ID.me + iPrescribe across the top of your screens as you progress through the process.

What if you do not pass identity proofing with Experian?

If you face challenges completing identity proofing and EPCS onboarding with Experian, despite your best efforts:

  1. Submit a Request to DrFirst Support

  2. Switch to ID.me: DrFirst Support team may determine that your identity proofing and EPCS onboarding process should be transferred to ID.me, also hosted by InfinID. You'll see ID.me + InfinID across the top of your screens as you progress through the process.

This alternative pathway ensures that all clients can successfully complete their identity proofing and can begin e-prescribing controlled substances.
