How to use the EPCS mailer

Purpose: Explains how to use the EPCS mailer to finalize e-prescribing of controlled substances activation in iPrescribe.
Audience: iPrescribe providers who have completed ID.me identity proofing and EPCS activation and need to enter their mailer verification code to begin e-prescribing controlled substances.
Prerequisite: Completed ID.me identity proofing AND started ID.me EPCS Activation

Important: Update to latest app version

If you're using the latest version of iPrescribe, you don't need to complete the mailer steps to finalize your EPCS activation.

If you do not have the most updated version of iPrescribe, you need to enter a verification code from a letter containing a QR code to complete Activating E-Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) in iPrescribe

Reminder: You received 2 separate items in the mail:

  • An token to e-prescribe controlled substances
    • If you receive your token in the mail before the letter, please keep it; you'll use it immediately after you complete EPCS activation using the letter with QR code.
  • A letter with QR code ("mailer") at your DEA-listed business; it should arrive 5-10 business days after you generated it as part of EPCS activation and is needed to complete EPCS activation.

1. Receive your letter at your DEA-listed business address.

6. You will see a success message, indicating you are now authorized to begin electronically prescribing controlled substances (EPCS) using your two-factor authentication (login password and one-time pin from an authenticator).
