Create a new prescription

To create a new prescription: 

1. From the iPrescribe home screen, tap New Rx (pencil) icon.

2. Search for and select a patient. Either: 

  • Use the search bar at the top, then select that patient from the search results, or 
  • Select a patient under the section labeled RECENT PATIENTS.

3. Tap the Create New Rx button at the bottom of the patient's profile screen.

4. Select the medication you want to e-prescribe. There are 3 options to locate a medication: 

From Favorites

If you already have a Favorite RX (a prescription you have favored in the past because it is one that you prescribe often), it will appear on this screen. All of the details of that prescription are already filled out.

From Commonly Prescribed 

Underneath the search bar, COMMONLY PRESCRIBED medications are listed.

  • If you want to enter the prescription details, dosage, and directions manually, select the medication that does not already have the dosage underneath the name and tap the desired dosage from the drop-down menu.

  • If you would like to prescribe the medication with the details, dosage, and directions already pre-populated (via Smart Sigs), tap directly on the medication that already has the dosage information underneath.

Search bar 

Search the for the medication by typing its name in the search field at the top.

5. After you selected the medication using 1 of the 3 methods above, populate prescription instructions. There are 2 ways to do this: with or without Smart Sigs. 

With Smart Sigs 

1. Select a Smart Sig (commonly prescribed methods).

Then, follow the steps outlined below in alphabetical letters:

(A) Review and confirm the following information that appears:

  • Duration (Days)
  • Quantity
  • Refills

(B) Scroll down, then select one of the following options:

  • Substitution Permitted: allows pharmacies to make substitutions of this drug
  • Dispense As Written: only permits pharmacies to fill medication as prescribed

(C) Enter optional comments to the pharmacists, then tap Continue.

Without Smart Sigs 

(A) Fill out the following prescription details, then click Save.

  • Action, Dose, Form, Route, Frequency, and Other

(B) Select and confirm the following information that appears:

  • Duration (Days), Quantity, and Refills

(C) Scroll down, then select one of the following options:

  • Substitution Permitted: allows pharmacies to make substitutions of this drug
  • Dispense As Written: only permits pharmacies to fill medication as prescribed

(D) Enter optional comments to the pharmacists, then tap Continue.

6. Review your prescription details, then tap Sign and Send or Add to Pending at the bottom of the screen. 

  • Sign and Send begins the process to transmit this prescription to the pharmacy. 
  • Add to Pending adds the prescription to a group of prescriptions which you can then sign and send in bulk to the pharmacy.
