Purpose: Explains the difference between the login password, signature password, and passphrase in iPrescribe, and provides reset instructions for each. The passphrase section applies only to EPCS-enrolled providers who completed identity proofing through Experian.
Audience: Active iPrescribe users.
iPrescribe uses different credentials based on your role and EPCS enrollment status. This article explains each credential type and how to reset it.
iPrescribe Mobile users access iPrescribe with their username and password.
iPrescribe Practice users access both iPrescribe and E-Prescribing Desktop with the same username and password.
Login password (all users)
Purpose: Authenticates your iPrescribe account access.
About your login password
You created your username and login password when you first registered for iPrescribe.
From iPrescribe Mobile:
- Go to the iPrescribe login screen.

Select the Need help logging in? link.
- Follow the prompts to reset your password.
From E-Prescribing Desktop (iPrescribe Practice account):
- Go to the E-Prescribing Desktop login screen.

Select the Forgot password? link.
- Follow the prompts to reset your password.
If you cannot reset your password using these steps, contact the admin at your practice.
Signature password (providers)
Purpose: Authorizes prescription signing and transmission.
iPrescribe generates your signature password automatically during registration. When you prescribe, this password auto-populates in the signature password field.
Note: Your practice admin may have turned off the signature password requirement in E-Prescribing Desktop Settings. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, contact your admin.
Before you reset: Verify you know your current login password. If you've forgotten it, reset your login password first using the steps in the Login Password section above.
From iPrescribe Mobile:
- Log in to iPrescribe Mobile app.
- Select Menu.

Select Settings.
- Select Signature password.
- Enter your current login password, then create a new signature password.
- Click Save.
From E-Prescribing Desktop (iPrescribe Practice account):
- Log in to E-Prescribing Desktop.
- Select Menu.

Select Settings.
- Select Signature password.
- Enter your current login password, then create a new signature password.
- Click Save.
If you are sending a controlled substance prescription, you also need a controlled substance password and token PIN. See the controlled substance password section below.
Controlled substance password (EPCS providers)
Purpose: Authorizes controlled substance prescription signing and transmission.
Your controlled substance password depends on which identity proofing vendor you used during EPCS enrollment. Select the section below that applies to you.
If you completed identity proofing through Experian, your passphrase is a separate credential that you created. It is distinct from your login password.
- If you want to reset your passphrase, follow the steps in Reset EPCS Passphrase.
- If you have forgotten your passphrase, follow the steps in Forgot EPCS Passphrase.
- You must have an active registered token and know the answer your security question.
- Providers who cannot reset their passphrase must complete identity proofing again.
This section does not apply to you if: You completed identity proofing through ID.me. See the Signing Password section below.
If you completed identity proofing through ID.me, your iPrescribe login password also serves as your controlled substance password. There is no separate passphrase to manage.
- To change your controlled substance password, reset your login password using the steps in the Login Password section above.
This section does not apply to you if: You completed identity proofing through Experian. See the Passphrase section above.
