Step 6: Add controlled substance tokens to your iPrescribe account

Purpose: This article explains how to associate multiple authenticators (tokens) to an iPrescribe account to maintain uninterrupted access to EPCS.

Audience: Providers who have activated EPCS in iPrescribe and want to add a hard token or additional authenticators to their account.

Prerequisite: Activate E-prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) in iPrescribe

This article is for users registering for iPrescribe app on their own (self-registered).

To learn more about different accounts, visit iprescribe.com/pricing or contact your Account Manager.

We strongly recommend linking more than one token to your account. Having a backup token keeps you from losing access to EPCS if you get a new phone, lose your device, or lose access to an authenticator app.

There are two types of tokens you can add:

  • Soft token: an app on your device, such as the ID.me Authenticator app
  • Hard token: a physical key fob made by OneSpan

Add the ID.me Authenticator app (soft token)

You already linked the ID.me Authenticator app to your account during Step 5: Activate EPCS in iPrescribe. No further action is needed for this token.

Add a physical hard token

You ordered a hard token during Step 5. It will arrive by mail within 5–7 business days. Once it arrives, follow the steps in Pair a hard token to your iPrescribe account to link it to your account.

Add any other authenticator or token

  1. Log in to the iPrescribe app.
  2. Tap the main menu.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Manage Authenticators.
  5. Enter your iPrescribe password and a 6-digit one-time pin (OTP) from your ID.me Authenticator app.
  6. On the Token Manager screen, tap Add New Token.
  7. Enter the information for your new token and tap Save.
